mygamercard.net is gone. With it, gone are two of the three private Xbox avatars we had. Luckily, I recently added the third that comes directly from Microsoft, but it only has your Xbox avatar face, no gamerscore, no recent games.

What a pity! Internet develops backwards in this century. We used to get more and more - better search, more complicated pages. We started to share data with other sites. MFO Chess now feeds on data from teamleague.org - for our scheduled chess games and their records, from NY Times - for chess blog post; we take our games with comments from mekk.waw.pl/mk/watchbot/index. The link to http://www.agecommunity.com/  still works to provide us with their avatar data, although nobody plays the game anymore. And then, there was mygamercard.net and xbox.com. The forward progress stopped for some years, and now we are moving backwards.

During the same period, the quality of an average web page went down dramatically, from hand crafted individual web pages to monotonous blogs to twits. We used to argue if it is OK to use a table to achieve an interesting layout. Now, we have 140 characters to say our say.

Maybe most regretfully, the web search no longer works as it did until they find out how to make money on it. I wonder how long will wikipedia last until a spam attack kills it.

Not long ago Valve Corp. added the ability to buy user made items(Hats, weapons, models mainly) to Team Fortress II. Ranging from .25 to $20 or something crazy like that. TODAY, Valve Corp said some modders made $40,000 in the short time the items have been on sale. THAT"S OVER $9,000!!!111 They couldn't even pay them via PayPaL as it was over the limits PayPaL sets. Valve literally flew the modders to their home base to pay them in person.

This is huge news for all modders/game developers around the world.

Phone posting was impossible until recently, as our wonderful FckEditor is too heavy for phone browsers yet. I've added  a workaround.

You can force MFO into using simple text box editor by adding magic word FckNo to your MFO settings (Home/Your Profile). That simple editor does not have any features, but is good enough for one paragraph of text. (It actually accepts HTML, so if you want more that one paragraph, you need to add P or BR tag.)

Once you have done that, you can switch between FckEditor and simple editor modes by going to your home menu. If you are in simple box mode, it will contain "FckEdit on" item that switches MFO editor back on. If you are in the FckEditor mode, it will contain "FckEdit off" that switches it off.
