Proper 'MFO Chess' Etiquette

Welcome to MFO Chess! Here are a few simple guidelines which will make your stay here at MFO that much more enjoyable.  These are just mere suggestions and not the rules to play here, but if followed, in part or in full, you should have a rewarding experience. Most of the "regulars" here know each other through the site's various rts games and as a chess community, we are growing.

  • Please visit the forums here: ,  introduce yourself (include chess ratings if any), and feel free to ask any chess related questions. Our chess community is small but friendly and helpful.
  • Scan the "List Games" section and you will see current games in progress.  Preview some games until you feel comfortable with who might be in your general skill level range.
  • When you make a challenge, don't forget to set game level and game speed correctly, so that your opponent knows what to expect. Selecting which color to play if you wish (it's proper etiquette to use 'random' unless of course it's predetermined).
  • Keep in mind that this is correspondence chess, where moves can take less than an hour up to days for one move. If you plan on staying for less than a week or so, please indicate this to your opponent so they can either decline the game, or understand that moves will be made "quickly".
  • Never forget to inform your opponent when you are making a break.
  • If you decided to stop playing, please say so. It is a good form to resign before leaving.
  • Have fun!
